Earlier this week Eidos announced “Arkham Asylum,” a new “Batman” game based on the universe created in the DC comics (not the movies because apparently EA has those rights). Well, now Eidos has dropped a slew of screenshots from their upcoming title and all I can say is “gimme!” It looks dark, gritty, everything “Batman” should be…. I love the Riddler room… Too bad Batman and The Joker don’t look this cool in “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.”

Check ‘em out right nyah…

Capcom Digital Day LA, Part 3:

Mega Man 9 Logo

And finally, I got to demo Mega Man 9. This one has the most hype around it, and it almost seems backwards to have to describe the mechanics of a game that’s very blatantly a throwback to days of old. Still, it’s freakin’ Mega Man, and revisiting childhoods has always been considered a healthy thing. Read the rest of this entry »

Capcom Digital Day LA, Part 2:

The next game I was shown was Flock. A new title from Scottish developer Proper Games. Here we have a very simple delight of a game. You are a UFO on earth, and you have research to do on the farm animals of earth. In order to conduct this research, you’ll have to gather them into your main ship, the Mother Flocker. No, I did not make that up, and yes, it did make me eager to watch this game in action. Read the rest of this entry »

Capcom Digital Day LA, Part 1:

 Age of Booty Logo

Downloadable games are getting popular. The new Geometry Wars, Braid, and Pixeljunk Eden have been getting a particularly large lauding by the press and gamers alike. New games are constantly announced for PSN and XBox Live Arcade and Steam is holding down the PC fort with Audiosurf and plenty others. These bite-size games are showing that sometimes the bigger ideas work on the smaller games. Capcom’s caught onto as much, and is offering a whole lot of nostalgia in the form of Bionic Commando and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo remakes, but they have more still. They invited us to their offices in Los Angeles to show off a couple more of the digital outings that they’re both publishing and developing, Certain Affinity’s Age of Booty, Proper Games’ Flock, and their own super-hyped Mega Man 9. It’s exciting to see such a large company show so much interest in the digitally downloaded world of bite-sized games, and I was eager to see what they had for us. Read the rest of this entry »

Finally!

August 6th, 2008 by Jessica Villarreal
finally

condemnedbox.jpg

[rating]I finally completed a game!  I had been so busy during the month of July I had to put all my gaming on hold, and that’s never good:(  Well, a few nights ago I completed The Condemned: Criminal Origin and boy was it damn scary.  I had played the game briefly while Arena Lounge was still open and thought it was spooky then too.  I picked it up again a few months ago, then stopped, THEN found the second game The Condemned:Bloodshot for 30 bucks!  I bought it because I had heard such great things about it and told myself I had to complete the first story before moving on the the second.  Now I’m ready for it and can’t wait!  I’ll let you know what I think once I start playing it….whenever that is.

In the long, sad history of movie to video game adaptations, few have stood out as stellar. “Chronicles of Riddick” and uh… Yeah… Now, one of my personal favorite franchises, “Saw,” is being turned into a video game. Written by the creators of the original film in the series, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the official site for the game, which is slated for release in 2009, has just launched.

Max Brooks

Comic Con day 2 started out much earlier.  Norm and I made the drive back home and were pretty exhausted from the traffic drama of Day one.  We were on the road by 8am and it was smooth sailing all the way to Downtown San Diego, taking the usual hour and a half or so.  I thought I’d try parking closer but realized very quickly that parking was already full and quite a bit more expensive the closer to the Convention Center.  We parked by the Santa Fe Train Station and took a bike taxi to the Convention Center.  We made our way to the first panel of the day, consequently the first panel of the show for us, which was the Spotlight on Max Brooks panel.Max Brooks is the writer of the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z and the son of legendary comedic actor and director, Mel Brooks.  Max is attributed to having breathed new life into the zombie genre. One of the highlights about going to conventions for me is seeing all the new toys and figures coming out from my favorite fandoms. Gentle Giant and Sideshow Collectibles both had some amazing collections displayed but I had my eye on Square-Enix’s. Below is the gallery from their booth. Some of these are currently available, others are proto-types for Final Fantasy XIII, and others should be in stores soon. Seeing the Lenneth figure in person was quite impressive. Click on read more to view the gallery.

Comic Con is over and after fun, pictures, mingling, sore feet and sore butt and calves here is what happened!

Thursday I left Los Angeles at 11am .  It takes about two hours to get to San Diego but because of and unfortunate accident that happened on the 5 South, two hours turned into five!  Apparently, a VON’s truck carrying 60,000 pounds of meat rolled over and caught fire at around 5:30am.  The mess wasn’t cleaned until after 3pm. Boo! Read the rest of this entry »
